The deepest known point in any of our oceans is called the Mariana Trench. So let’s do some deep diving into an expedition with mysterious circumstances – in one of the darkest and coldest places on Earth.
This trench, located at the deepest part of the ocean is located near the Mariana Islands and is 1585 miles long and 43 miles wide. To put it into perspective, this is like taking the tallest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, piled on top of each other 36 times!
Down there, they not only found flatfish but at about 25,000 feet deep, they saw a strange glowing object. After it appeared, it seemed to “follow” the ship for about 300 feet before losing interest and disappearing again. But there was an even stranger occurrence.
As the drone descended into the depths of the ocean, it suddenly stopped moving, which was not planned. After turning on the camera, it was revealed that a large creature of some type was trying to eat the drone. This creature would have had to have a mouth of at least 7 feet wide, in order to chew on the large piece of technology. Prior to this, it had been long believed these types of animals had been extinct for thousands of years.
If we have only explored 5% of the ocean, imagine the creatures that may be lurking here or anywhere else in the hidden depths of the ocean. That’s exactly what was uncovered during this expedition, and has kept us curious about what we could possibly find if we continue to explore further.
