The incident we named Tsunami is a sequence oflarge waves of enormously long wavelength and period, usually generated by afierce, impulsive undersea disturbance or movement near the coast or in theocean. When a sudden movement of a large dimension of water occurs, or if thesea floor is unexpectedly raised or dropped by an earthquake, big tsunami wavescan be formed. The waves move out of the area of origin and can be reallydangerous and damaging when they reach the coast.
Despite people living in oceanfront societies, the prospect of a tsunami is an alarming one. Such as earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and tornadoes, tsunamis are one of the furthermost destructive natural forces of the world. It is often hard for individuals to recognize a tsunami in the open ocean since the waves are considerably smaller further out at sea than they are close to the coast. However, knowing how and when a tsunami will assault has begun a subject of great interest for scientists over the ages.
- Indonesia. January 4th, 2018
A 6.1 scale earthquake hit off the south of Java, about 140km southeast of Jakarta, around 1.35pm local time on January 23. The aftershocks were documented at about magnitude 4, clearly showing a collapsing trend. This is one of the world worst tsunamis caught on video.
- China and Japan. March 11th, 2011.
It was the most powerful recognized earthquake ever to have hit China and Japan at the same time, and one of the most powerful earthquakes in the world. In the outcome, a state of emergency was declared following the disaster of the cooling system at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, resulted in the evacuation of nearby habitats. Radiation points inside the plant were up to 1,000 times normal levels, and the ones outside the plant were up to eight times normal levels.
- India and Indonesia. December 26th, 2004.
The tsunami and its aftermath were responsible for massive destruction and damage on the rim of the Indian Ocean. Some places reported that the waves had reached height of 30 feet (nine meters) or more when they hit the coastline. The tsunami was caused by subduction with an epicenter off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The quake itself is branded by the scientific community as the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake. On the record, the tsunami was given various names, including the “Boxing Day tsunami”. Long-term environmental harm was severe as well, with towns, tourist resorts, farmland
Recording a tsunami on video is one of the most complicated feats for an individual, considering it puts their lives at risk. However, thanks to these brave characters, we have captured never imagined scenes of the greatest tsunami in this decade, since, without the evidence, we would not believe the magnitude and strength of these natural events. Even better, it is a tool that will help create knowledge to prevent large losses in the future.
